Wes and I decided to hike part of the Kalalau trail our second morning in Kauai. You literally drive around the island until there is no more road and there is the trailhead (thanks dad for making the long drive to get us there!). The hike itself is quite an adventure. It is a little strenuous and slippery thanks to the streams running down the mountain, but it is an amazing way to see Kauai and the Na Pali Coast. I was so surprised to see people (locals, I am assuming) blazing down the trail in flip flops or barefeet!
It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. My new definition of a tropical paradise. We both decided we would do this hike often if we lived there. We hiked about two miles in to a little beach that you can only get to on foot or by boat and had lunch. I've never seen anything like this hike. We hiked two miles back to catch up with dad and head back to the hotel. One day I would love to hike the whole eleven mile trail.
That night we all had pizza at Brick Oven Pizza, another Kauai favorite. They actually give the little ones pizza dough to play with (and they'll even give it to the not so little ones if you ask). Halle was all over that and the pizza.
I can't post about Kauai without mentioning how much Halle loved all the little statues and torches around our hotel. Every night she had to see the fire, touch the lions, and sit on the horse. Oh how she makes our vacations so much fun.
